Attracting Large Numbers Through Piggy-Backing

There’s a little talked about phenomenon that has a lot of potential when it comes to business. I call it piggy-backing. It’s where a smaller company hooks up with a large company in order to accelerate it’s business.

A good example would be when a little coffee company from Seattle managed to convince a major airline to carry it’s brand of coffee. The result? Starbucks was able to rapidly expand because of the name recognition it had gained across the country. This allowed Starbucks to open in new cities, with a built-in fan base.

It always amazes me whenever I do a post that has a massive spike in readership due to a single tag. I recently did a post on my food blog that was just a basic recipe, but contained the words “Appleton Rum.” The number of people who have read that one post based off of a single tag has been amazing.

It makes me wonder how else this concept can be used.

Mark Knopfler, Princess Bride?

Being a child of the 80′s, I’m a pretty big fan of Dire Straits.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I caught the name of the composer of the theme song for “The Princess Bride”: Mark Knopfler!

Not sure if anyone else gives a damn, just the sort of thing I catch at 3am after a few beers. (Don’t ask why I was watching the Princess Bride at 3 am.)

In the beginning…

This being my first official post on this blog, I want to state my original purpose in creating it.

I have already been blogging for a while, and am starting to feel the limitations of having a single topic blog. My other blog is about food. I love food, but I don’t love trying to come up with new posts about food everyday.

Having said that, I intend to use this blog as a place to post anything I want that’s relevant to me, but not necessarily related to food.

I also hope to build a community space for like minded individuals to discuss whatever topic may stir up interest.

This is basically an experimental space. Feel free to experiment right along with me.
